Rooms and spaces come in all
different sizes and shapes, so do rugs. You can find round, oblong,
square and rectangle shaped rugs in just about any carpet
store and online. As more and more people put
hardwood and tile flooring in, there will no doubt be an infusion of new rug
styles. Often people don’t know where to place rugs or what kind would
suit their room the best. One thing to remember is there is no set rule
that decides which rug is best. It comes down to your personal style
preference.
Some people tend to be more
practical in their designs and homes. This group often opts for synthetic
materials that are easy to clean, require little to no maintenance and can be
fairly inexpensive. This group also enjoys rugs that can be moved or
replaced. Often practical rugs are found in front of kitchen sinks,
exterior doorways, under foot traffic areas and wherever shoes are frequently
worn. The practical side of sized carpets is they do protect flooring
from stains and wear and tear. They also provide a cushion under foot and
can easily be cleaned.
Another reason for floor coverings is decorative. If a room
has wall-to-wall carpet, chances are it is comfortable and warm to a barefoot,
but it may lack an element of style. People place rugs over carpet to add
depth, color and flair to otherwise bland flooring. Area rugs are also
used a great deal over certain sections of hard, solid surface flooring.
Many people place rugs in front of a fireplace to show a level of
comfort. Other people use rugs under their coffee tables or as runners in
a hallway. Another popular way to use sized carpets is as a full room
floor covering. Many times people will use rugs that are nearly as large
as the floor they cover, leaving an equal border on each side displaying the
hard surfaced floor underneath. Rugs are used in bathrooms for water
absorption and decorative appeal. People also use rugs to decorate
outdoor living spaces. Many manufacturers make rugs specific to outdoor
use, with weatherproof materials that also repel mold and mildew. These
make comfortable additions to your decks and patios.
